Oliver Bistro

Italian pizza and pasta and the best home made desserts around. Family run, and good fun to sit outside and soak up the atmosphere. Carrer 29, 97.

Saona

A fusion restaurant of the highest order. Striking decor, an affordable menu del dia and an incredible outside seating area. Carrer 29, 23.

Al Grano

Spanish and Asian fusion, and an award winner for its paella in the Valencia region. Lovely outside space and great service, the pricier option. Carrer 29, 27.

Cafetal Club

An unpretentious coffee spot serving great value food. Tortilla and tomato toast is the way to start the day. Carrer 29.

Don Baco

An outside pagoda bar and terrace, perfect for an early coffee, an afternoon Aperol or an evening gin. Also a steak restaurant. Carrer 29, 46.

Heladeria Ramoneta

Family run horchata and ice cream. Horchata is the Valencian drink made from tiger nuts, and the locals will tell you it is a super food. Opening times vary through the year. Placa Porta del Sol, 2.

Oceanografic

The largest aquarium in Europe, with marine life from the Arctic, the tropics and the Red Sea. It sits inside the City of Arts and Sciences. Carrer de Eduardo Primo Yufera 1 B.

City of Arts and Sciences

One of Europe’s major hubs for science and culture, with the Hemisferic and the Oceanografic. The avant garde architecture is by Santiago Calatrava and Felix Candela. Avinguda del Professor Lopez Pinero 7.

Bioparc

A new generation zoo where the boundaries between visitor and animal are blurred, recreating wild habitats with real attention to the planting. Avinguda Pio Baroja 3.

Cathedral of Valencia

The Gothic cathedral is the city’s most important religious monument, and its tower, El Miguelete, is one of Valencia’s symbols. It holds the Holy Grail. Placa de l’Almoina.

Beaches

Twenty minutes by car to the nearest sand.

Malvarrosa

Fine golden sand and the most visited beach by Valencians, with good transport links, volleyball courts and fitness classes along the front.

El Saler

On the edge of the Albufera Natural Park, white sand and natural dunes surrounded by pine woods. Very close to the city and still quiet.

Cala Granadella

A small turquoise cove on the outskirts of Javea, about a hundred kilometres away, with good facilities and lovely surroundings.

Getting around

You do not need a car, but there is a covered space for one if you bring it.

Walking

La Canyada is beautiful to walk around. The hike out to the La Vallesa pine forest is the one to do on a clear morning.

Metro

La Canyada is on line 2 of the Valencian metro. Turia and Angel Guimera are the usual stops for the centre.
